OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg Active Living Task Force will begin working with city staff to with hopes of establishing designated bike lanes in the city.
Scott Wright of CGSW Racing and the Active Living Task Force gave a brief presentation Monday explaining the benefits of biking lanes. Wright said he would like to see lanes that connect the city’s schools to the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club as a starting point.
He said the ongoing Paterson Street improvement project may be the perfect place to start and suggested that having one side of the street designated for parking and the other for bikes would be the ultimate solution.
However, Wright also acknowledged that such a goal might be over reaching. He requested the council’s permission to begin working with staff to determine the best options for the city, taxpayers, children and bike enthusiasts.
Wright said the current biking situation in Ogdensburg is dangerous for children who often weave in and out of traffic. He also said the city may see economic benefits from establishing lanes as they will likely attract cyclists.
His non-profit organization CGSW Racing has held races in the city and says the response has been very positive.
