MASSENA -- A Massena man who was being processed on a felony escaped from the police station but was caught a short time later and is jailed on new charges.
Charles D. Sherman, 30, of Tamarack Street, Massena was handcuffed and being charged with first-degree criminal contempt on Thursday afternoon.
"He ended up pushing the handcuffs off his hands and escaped from the police station," Love said, adding that Sherman injured his hands when he slipped the cuffs. "He was detained immediately after escaping."
The chief said Sherman made it to nearby Andrews Street before officers took him back into custody.
After being caught, Sherman was charged with second-degree escape and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned by Massena Justice Gerald Sharlow and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, in lieu of $2,500 bail.
