SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team welcomes new assistant coach

POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam head women's soccer coach Mark Misiak has named Lauren Mackay his assistant coach for the 2013-14 season.

Mackay comes to Potsdam after serving three seasons as the girls' varsity head coach for Stillwater High School in Stillwater, N.Y.

"I'm thrilled to be able to add someone of Lauren's caliber to our staff," Misiak said. "Her playing experience garners instant respect, and she has proven herself to be a quality coach. I'm supremely confident our players will enjoy working with her and that she will be a tremendous asset to our program."

Mackay began her playing career at Stillwater High and played Division II soccer at Southern New Hampshire University from 2003 – 2006, as captain during her senior season.

Following college, Mackay played for two years in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) with the Adirondack Lynx in Glens Falls. She then played in Newburghwith the Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues of the W-League for two seasons. She helped the team to league semifinal appearances during both years. In 2011, Mackay closed out her competitive soccer career with the WPSL's Albany Alleycats.

Mackay earned a bachelor's degree in club management from Southern New Hampshire, aiming to run her family's golf course, the Saratoga Lake Golf Club, in Stillwater. She has worked as the general manager at the course since 2007.

The Bears open their season on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 when they host the Collegiate Village Cup featuring New England College, Becker College, and Castleton State. Potsdam will battle New England at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night and Castleton at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
