POTSDAM – The SUNY Potsdam softball team is to participate in Potsdam Central School’s Adopt-A-Bear-Cub program this Saturday at the Lawrence Avenue Elementary School.
The Adopt-A-Bear-Cub program pairs up elementary school children one-on-one with college students who help them with things such as homework and other school projects.
After receiving a grant from the New York State Department of Health, the Adopt-A-Bear-Cub program was able to expand and offer more to the 60 program participants.
“While the main focus of the program is academics there is a portion of the program’s day-to-day activities that is dedicated to being active and moving,” says Nicole Feml, assistant director of SUNY Potsdam’s Center for School Partnerships and Teacher Certification.
“The Potsdam softball team’s primary focus will be teaching the children how to engage in safe movement,” she said.
