POTSDAM -- Dozens of sponsors and donors and hundreds of golfers helped SUNY Potsdam raise a record $85,000 at its 22nd Annual Scholarship Golf Classic last month.
More than 200 golfers took to the course at the Potsdam Town and Country Club for the fundraising tournament. All proceeds go toward scholarships to help SUNY Potsdam students further their education. In 2009, the College provided 1,171 scholarships to 918 recipients, totaling $2,261,771.
The Scholarship Golf Classic is designed to increase awareness and funding for student scholarships. Support from sponsors is the key to its success year after year. Additional sponsorships are still welcome to help the college fulfill its mission of supporting deserving SUNY Potsdam students, many of whom come from the North Country. Last year, the tournament raised more than $62,000 for SUNY Potsdam student scholarships.
The organizers of this year’s tournament recognize the four top sponsors, Renzi Foodservice, Buck Supply & Distribution, Honeywell and the SUNY Potsdam Class of 1975.
Canton-Potsdam Hospital partnered with SUNY Potsdam for the first time this year to sponsor the Scholarship Golf Classic Shootout. Golfers at the tournament took a shot from 150 yards, with a top prize of $100,000 for sinking the shot.
SUNY Potsdam students, faculty and staff volunteered at the tournament to help make the event a success.
