POTSDAM – SUNY Potsdam’s University Police are seeking information regarding an alleged sexual assault that apparently occurred at an off-campus fraternity over the weekend.

“According to the police report, a female SUNY Potsdam student was invited to an off-campus fraternity house this weekend, where a male is alleged to have forcibly sexually assaulted her,” a campus notice issued by Dean of Students Chip Morris said.

University police are unsure if the fraternity is officially affiliated with the college.

“At this time, we have very little direct information to include not knowing if this was a recognized or unrecognized organization. We will inform the campus community as we know more about the case,” Morris said in his email.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Lieutenant Mark Murray of the Potsdam Village Police, at 265-2121.

Morris said student safety is SUNY Potsdam's number one priority and an immediate response to a reported incident of sexual misconduct is extremely important.

In his email he encouraged students to save the university police number, 267-2222, in their phones.

University police referred questions to the student affairs office.

A spokesperson for the college said further information regarding the incident was not available.
