POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam is near its goal to garner $27 million in donations and gifts.
To date, the "Take the Lead" campaign has brought in $25.7 million toward the overall goal of raising $27 million by the school's bicentennial in 2016.
Of that total, the campaign has so far raised $5.9 million toward its $7 million goal for scholarships. The campaign has also garnered 74 new endowed scholarship funds of at least $20,000 each, to date.
Last year, SUNY Potsdam awarded more than $2.6 million in scholarships to 1,067 students, including $821,000 from donor-funded scholarships, which are funded through the Potsdam College Foundation.
"SUNY Potsdam is thankful for the generosity and constant support it has received from scholarship donors in the past year," the school said in a prepared statement. "These gifts are essential to ensuring that educational opportunities are open to the next generation of students."
