POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam is mourning the death of College Council member Patrick Regan.

Regan passed away early Wednesday morning at Canton-Potsdam Hospital at the age of 60. Calling hours are tentatively set for Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood.

Regan was appointed by former Governor David Paterson to serve on the SUNY Potsdam College Council in October 2010.

Regan, who had served as the executive director of the Massena Housing Authority since 2007, was a tireless public servant. He had more than 25 years of professional achievement in non-profit, municipal and private sector work.

After earning bachelor's and master's degrees from Clarkson University in interdisciplinary engineering and management and management information systems, respectively, Regan worked as a production control manager, appraiser and engineer in Los Angeles. He returned to the North Country in 1985, working as the manager of Realty Management Systems in Potsdam until 1996, when he took a position as a counselor and economic developer for the Office of Economic Development in Canton.

Regan went on to serve as a school business manager for the St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services and Windsor Northwest SU in Bethel, Vt., before being offered his most recent position in Massena. Regan earned his second master's degree in educational administration from St. Lawrence University in 2004.

Regan has also served on the Potsdam Central School Board of Education, the Potsdam Town Council, the Potsdam Housing Authority Board of Directors and the Potsdam Economic Development Zone Task Force.

In addition to his professional and community duties, Regan bicycled solo across the United States, and completed 12 marathons. An avid skier and golfer, he also completely remodeled a 120-year-old Victorian house.
