POTSDAM -- Collegiate Village has teamed up with SUNY Potsdam’s athletic department for the “Bears Mean Business” program, agreeing to sponsor the season-opening men’s and women’s soccer tournaments.
The third annual SUNY Potsdam soccer tournament will be renamed the “2013 Collegiate Village Cup.”
“We could not be more pleased with this collaboration,” said Jamie Jueckstock, community manager and director of residence life at Collegiate Village. “We are located right across the street from the athletic fields and we can always see games and activities taking place. We are really excited to be able to sponsor this tournament and support our neighbors!”
The men’s tournament will kick off Friday, Aug. 30 with a 1:30 p.m. matchup between Plattsburgh State and Rutgers-Newark. The Bears will open their season at 4 p.m. against Lyndon State.
Saturday Potsdam will battle Rutgers-Newark at 11 a.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. contest between Plattsburgh and Lyndon.
“This sponsorship gives us a tremendous boost for the first campus athletics’ event of the season,” said Bears men’s coach Adam Parker.
The women’s tournament will begin Saturday, Aug. 31, with Castleton State to take on Becker College at 4 p.m.
The Bears will open against New England College at 6:30 p.m., wrapping up with two matches Sunday, Sept. 1. New England will square off with Becker at noon and the Bears will face Castleton at 2:30 p.m.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our girls to play in big matches in front of our own fans," said Bears women’s coach Mark Misiak.
