POTSDAM -- A record number of alumni and friends are set to return to SUNY Potsdam for the college's 2013 reunion weekend Thursday to Sunday, July 11 to 14.

More than 725 people have already registered for the weekend, with more expected. That's a 13 percent increase over the college's last reunion registration record.

SUNY Potsdam is also celebrating a fundraising milestone. As of July 3, alumni and friends had given a total of $2,328,945 in honor of the 2013 class reunions.

"We are looking forward to celebrating everything that makes Potsdam great -- especially its accomplished graduates and their generosity -- this weekend," said Vice President for College Advancement Vicki Templeton-Cornell.

Eight classes exceeded their class giving goals this year. The class of 1973 set a giving record for a 40th reunion class gift, raising $270,140 -- more than 10 times the initial goal.

The classes of 2003, 1993, 1988, 1983, 1978, 1968, and 1963 have also already exceeded their giving goals for the year.

The “50-Year Club,” made up of all classes from 1963 or earlier, made more than $1.89 million in class gifts this past year. The giving includes both outright gifts and the establishment of funds through planned or estate giving.

Gifts to the college support a variety of resources for research, student travel, equipment, technology, and scholarships.
