CANTON -- A new video featuring SUNY Canton students, faculty and staff speaking out against sexual assault has received more than 1,000 views in a week.

The “It’s On Us” video was made to encourage the college community to take the It’s On Us pledge, a personal commitment to help keep students safe and a promise to be a part of an initiative to address sexual assault at colleges and universities.

“It’s On Us is a growing movement that inspires everyone to take responsibility to prevent sexual assault,” said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. “Our video illustrates our commitment to maintaining a safe campus for everyone. We all have a role to play in making that happen.”

The 50-second version of the video can be viewed on YouTube at https://youtu.be/O7IBfcKl49w , and a 30-second version has been released to area television stations. More than 30 students, faculty, staff and administration members volunteered to be a part of the project.

Members of the college community will be using the video during an on-campus drive to encourage students to take the It’s On Us pledge today from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the Underground Lounge and from 5 to 7 p.m. in Chaney Dining Center.

Amanda D. Rowley, Title IX coordinator and Amanda L. Deckert, Greek affairs coordinator, spearheaded the video, which was filmed on campus by Morgan D. Elliot, the college’s videographer.
