CANTON – SUNY Canton has signed on as Key Sponsor for the St. Lawrence International Film Festival. SUNY Canton will sponsor the Canton Block Party, which will be held Friday, Oct. 23, at the Village Green and Park Street.
“The St. Lawrence International Film Festival will highlight film, arts and culture from our region and well beyond, and also promises to bring tremendous economic benefit to our region and secure Canton as a prominent destination for regional and international visitors,” said Lenore VanderZee, Executive Director for University Relations. “SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran, the Canton College Association, and the entire campus community are thrilled to be a part of this world class event.”
St. Lawrence International Film Festival, slated for Oct. 22-25, 2015, is a first of its kind celebration of film with events on both sides of the international border between the US and Canada.
“Headquartering the Festival in Canton was a decision we made partly to ensure our event had a good ongoing working relationship with the colleges. When SUNY Canton stepped up to sponsor the Canton Block Party stage and provide food for the event, it signaled to us - and to our other sponsors - that this Festival has value to their students and faculty, to the community and to the region as a whole,” said Adam Paul, Executive Director for the St. Lawrence International Film Festival. “SUNY Canton’s support in our first year is incredibly meaningful to what St. Lawrence International Film Festival can be this year and for many more years to come.
The Canton Block Party, a VIP Lounge, competition films and late night screenings will take place in Canton on Friday, October 23rd. The Empire State Filmmaker Award Presentation and Reception, as well as a Special Late Night Screening in Potsdam will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24. The festival will conclude with an Awards Brunch, and a Closing Night film and party on Sunday October 25th.
