Clarkson University in Potsdam and St. Lawrence University and SUNY Canton have both scored high rankings in the most recent surveys by U.S. News & World Report and LendEDU.com/.

Meanwhile St. Lawrence University was also part of Princeton Review’s book "Colleges That Create Futures: 50 Schools That Launch Careers By Going Beyond the Classroom," which was released this week, and SUNY Potsdam has again been cited as having the state university system’s best food.

SUNY Canton has been ranked among the best colleges in the northern region, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2016 "Best Colleges" edition.

The college moved up several spots to 44th this year, which puts SUNY Canton in the top tier of the rankings.

Eligible schools are ranked on up to 16 academic measures. Outcome-related measures, such as graduation and retention rates, are the most heavily weighted factors.

The North division includes colleges in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.

"U.S. News & World Report is one of the top evaluators of college programs, and we're very pleased by their listing us among the top colleges of the Northeast," said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. "The significant increase in our ranking is reflective of the many innovations implemented by our faculty and staff to further enhance the education and support that our students benefit from."

Clarkson University is again in tier one, the top tier of national universities, with a ranking of 115 in U.S. News’s latest "Best Colleges" ranking.

Clarkson's Supply Chain Management program was listed among the best in the nation, ranked number 18 in Supply Chain Management/Logistics. Clarkson is among only five private institutions in the ranking, which also includes MIT, Carnegie Mellon, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Clarkson's is also again on the U.S. News "Great Schools, Great Prices" list (Best Value Schools), which takes into account a school's academic quality, as indicated by its 2016 U ranking and the 2014-2015 net cost of attendance for a student who received the average level of need-based financial aid.

More information about the rankings is available now at http://www.usnews.com/colleges.

And Clarkson's entrepreneurship program has been ranked one of the top 13 in the nation, according to LendEDU.

The company has named Clarkson to their list of "Top 13 University Entrepreneur Programs" at https://lendedu.com/blog/top-university-entrepreneur-programs/.

Based on 10,000 student survey responses, the list notes 13 programs that can help students achieve success in their own businesses. Clarkson is featured on the list for its graduation rate and high rate of graduates who have gone on to start their own businesses.

U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges annual ranking continues to place St. Lawrence University among the nation’s best liberal arts colleges, while USA Today placed St. Lawrence in the top 100 colleges and universities in the nation and top 10 in the state.

In its 2016 edition released today, U.S. News ranked St. Lawrence number 60 in the category of Best National Liberal Arts Colleges. USA Today’s College Factual, which released its rankings Tuesday, placed St. Lawrence number 74 out of out of 1,393 Best Nationwide Colleges and number nine out of 116 Best New York Colleges.

U.S. News categorizes national liberal arts colleges as institutions that focus almost exclusively on undergraduate education and award at least 50 percent of their degrees in the arts and sciences. The ranking included 217 private and 27 public institutions as well as another 58 unranked schools. Fewer than half of the nation’s higher educational institutions—about 1,400 colleges and universities—are ranked in any category by the magazine.

Despite a slight decline in its ranking with U.S. News from last year (No. 56), St. Lawrence’s overall score actually rose from 2015, with increases in graduation rates and the number of first-year students in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class. U.S. News also once again included St. Lawrence on list of "A+ Schools for B Students." The list includes colleges and universities that consider student engagement and individuality, as well as academic achievement, in admissions decisions.

St. Lawrence University is one of only 50 colleges in the nation that have distinctive attributes such as offering an array of internship opportunities, cooperative education, service learning and experiential learning programs. They involve undergrads in collaborative research with faculty, have strong cultures of civic engagement and support student participation in community service and study abroad programs.

The Princeton Review aptly zeroes in on facets that make the St. Lawrence experience a transformational one for careers, such as the flexibility to create multi-disciplinary majors and the opportunity to tap into a proactive network of highly-accomplished Laurentian professionals.”

The Princeton Review editors weighed information about the colleges’ career center services, internship, externship, cooperative learning and collaborative research opportunities, and student engagement in community service and study abroad programs.

“Simply put, these colleges are stellar at putting the ‘hire’ in ‘higher education,’” said Robert Franek, the book’s author and senior vice president and publisher at The Princeton Review. “We chose and commend them for the extraordinary opportunities they are giving their students for practical, hands-on learning that complements their academic experiences. These will not only enhance their resumes but also fast-track them for successful careers.”

The profile of St. Lawrence includes quotes from students, faculty and alumni and highlights several academic programs, such as Business in the Liberal Arts, Global Studies, and the Rhetoric and Communications Studies program, a skill that employers consistently rate as one of the most important in surveys conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Potsdam Auxiliary and College Educational Services (PACES), which runs the college’s food service, announced the college has once again been ranked No. 1 in the State University of New York system for dining services.

The 2015 SUNY Student Opinion Survey, which rates the 27 state-operated colleges and university centers in SUNY, once again found that Potsdam was the top campus for student satisfaction with dining services. The SOS project collects information and opinions every three years, and uses the information to assess and study quality of life issues on SUNY campuses.

"I am thrilled to congratulate PACES Dining Services on another No. 1 ranking. SUNY Potsdam is so proud to be able to offer our students, faculty and visitors the best campus dining experience in the State University of New York," President Dr. Kristin G. Esterberg said.

The SUNY System Administration Office of Institutional Research and Analysis conducts the survey. The SOS survey findings are important because, unlike other studies, they rank customer satisfaction against the other 26 state-operated SUNY institutions.

"Without our students, this would not be possible. I would also like to thank all my staff, who are here day in and day out, making sure we are providing excellent service and top-quality food to serve our student body," PACES Director of Dining Services Pat Gray said.

Gray also credited staff and employees who continue to innovate and respond to student feedback, which is the cornerstone of the program's success.

In 2014, PACES ranked 39th across the country in the Best Campus Food Survey by Niche. The survey ranks 1,175 colleges based on meal plan cost and more than 470,000 opinions submitted by 64,000 students.
