SUNY Canton business department selected for accreditation by international council

CANTON -- SUNY Canton's business department has been selected as a candidate for accreditation by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE) board of commissioners.

Accreditation by reputable organizations can ensure that a SUNY Canton education is consistent in its maintenance of quality. Members of the college's faculty, staff and administration use accreditation as a way to measure the success of programs and evaluate the quality of each major.

"The accreditation review process will help our students receive the best education possible," said Professor Charles R. Fenner, who teaches in the business and management programs. "IACBE accreditation means that SUNY Canton business programs are producing career-ready graduates who can meet the challenges of a changing global marketplace," he said.

Candidacy status means the department's programs have the eligibility necessary to undergo an accreditation review in the future.

The college's business department includes six different majors that will be certified by the IACBE, said School of Business and Liberal Arts Dean Jondavid S. DeLong.

"The quality of these programs will be integral to the continued growth of our college and will help us create a new generation of business leaders," he said.

Graduates from the popular Bachelor of Business Administration in Management degree have gone on to work in manufacturing, retail and non-governmental organizational management positions, a press release from the college said.

Last year, the college launched a program that allows business management graduates to complete an accelerated one-year Master of Business Administration degree at Clarkson University.
