A car in an automotive lab at SUNY Canton ran through an entryway and ended up in a hallway at Nevaldine Hall, but things are pretty much back to normal there.
A student was working on a car in the lab in Nevaldine South 124. The car had a manual transmission as was inadvertently left in first gear or was placed into first gear, according to college spokesman Greg Kie.
The student had started the vehicle to perform diagnostic tests and it very slowly drove through the windowed entryway of that laboratory and came to a halt in the hallway.
Students, faculty, staff and college police officers responded quickly to address the situation.
Employees from the Physical Plant had the accident completely cleared up in approximately 20 minutes with minimal disruptions to other classes, Kie said.
“We do not currently have an estimate on the cost of replacing the damaged glass entryway, but the learning laboratory is completely operational and accessible,” Kie said.
