Showers have moved east out of the North Country this morning and the sun will dominate the sky today, with highs a few degrees above normal at around 78 and west winds at 10 to 14 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain will move back into the region tonight, NWS says, with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms and lows around 57 and winds from the southwest 5 to 10 mph.

On Sunday there will be a 30 percent chance of showers early in the day, increasing to 60 percent in the afternoon. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s with southwest wind 6 to 14 mph.

Sunday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and lows around 55, forecasters predict.

The outlook for Monday is for a chance of showers developing by afternoon with highs around 70.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. West wind 10 to 14 mph.

• Tonight: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9pm and 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 57. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

• Sunday: Showers likely, mainly after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Southwest wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. West wind around 7 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Light southwest wind. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Tuesday: Showers likely, mainly after 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 70. Southwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
