A nice start to the weekend promises plentiful sunshine today and warming before rain moves in Sunday. Highs today will be in the 60s, the National Weather Service predicts, and lows tonight will be about 50 degrees.
South winds will increase later today and tonight ahead of a cold front. The front moves through the North Country on Sunday with light showers. Highs on Sunday are expected to be in the mid 60s, and Sunday night lows will be around 50 degrees, the NWS says.
A period of well above normal temperatures is expected for early next week with some chance for rain.
The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:
• Today: Sunny, with a high in the 60s. South wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph toward the St. Lawrence Valley.
• Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a low around 50. South wind 10 to 14 mph.
• Sunday: Showers likely, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high around 65. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
• Sunday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 1 am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Light west to southwest winds. Chance of precipitation is 60%, a little higher in southern St. Lawrence County. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
• Monday: Partly sunny, cloudier in the south, with a high near 66. Calm wind.
• Monday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. South wind around 5 mph. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
• Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, in the low to mid 70s. Winds south to southwest around 10 mph.
• Tuesday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Southwest wind around 9 mph.
• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. West wind 6 to 9 mph.
• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47. Light west wind.
• Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Light northwest wind.
• Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. Light northeast wind.
• Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. North wind around 5 mph.
