Clouds will clear from the North Country today leaving a sunny sky for Monday, while a chance of light snow tonight and tomorrow could freshen up the landscape for a white Christmas, according to the National Weather Service.

Gusty winds Wednesday will be bringing and 90 percent chance of snow Wednesday night and an 80 percent chance Thursday.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 25. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon.

• Tonight: A chance of light snow, mainly after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. Northeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Christmas Day: A chance of light snow, mainly before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 25. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 6. Light and variable wind.

• Wednesday: A slight chance of snow after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 21. Northeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

• Wednesday Night: Snow, mainly after 10pm. Low around 18. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

• Thursday: Snow. High near 26. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

• Thursday Night: A chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 16. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
