POTSDAM — First responders from the Potsdam police and fire departments, Potsdam Rescue Squad and St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, along with parishioners of St. Olympia Orthodox Church and others gathered recently for a vehicle blessing.
The blessing was held at the Potsdam Civic Center parking lot Aug. 5.
Fr. Peter Irfan led a special service to ask for God's mercy, grace and protection as people travel on roads that can be chaotic or violent, especially for those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our communities.
"We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to pray for the safety of many of our first responders who risk so much for us, and to thank them publicly. It is also a very special pleasure for us to be able to introduce our new priest, Fr. Peter, to our community at large," said Cindy Eyler, parish council president.
After the short service, members of the parish offered refreshments while first responders encouraged children to explore the fire trucks, ambulances and cruisers.
