Sun, clouds, rain, snow: forecasters predict mixed bag in North Country through Thursday

There were patches of sunshine to be seen in the North Country today, and the National Weather Service predicts we will see more tomorrow afternoon.

But in the meantime, skies will be mostly cloudy with a fair chance of some scattered rain and snow showers.

Low temperatures tonight will be around 20, and highs tomorrow will be in the upper 20s with gusty west winds.

Clouds are expected to return Tuesday night as lows drop to the mid-teens.

Wednesday, Wednesday night and Thursday, the chance of snow returns, with probabilities between 50 and 70 percent. Temps Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be in the low 30s, and overnight lows in the mid 20s.

After that, the next shot of precipitation is not expected until Saturday and Saturday night.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

Remainder of this afternoon: Scattered rain showers, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high in the 40s. South wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight: Scattered snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 20. West wind between 10 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday: Scattered snow showers, mainly before 8am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 28. West wind between 7 and 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday: A chance of snow, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Light wind becoming east between 11 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Wednesday Night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Thursday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
