Summer youth jobs available through county

Summer youth job applications are available at the St. Lawrence County One-Stop Career Center in Canton and at state Department of Labor offices in Ogdensburg and Massena.

If you are a graduating high school senior or a young adult no longer attending high school aged 16 to 21 you may apply.

Applicants may also go online to www.slconestop.com and download the form.

Eligible applicants will be placed in worksites throughout St. Lawrence County helping out in communities by performing needed work.

These are six-week summer jobs that run from Monday, July 9 through Friday, Aug. 17. Most positions will provide 30 hours a week at the New York State minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

Young adults who do not plan to go to college or the military may be offered placement in internships that operate year round, or may be offered opportunities for free vocational training at the successful conclusion of the summer program.

In-school youth should have received an application from a high school guidance office and must return it by April 17.

Eligibility is based on household income or, for youth with disabilities, their income only. The income guidelines are based on 200 percent of the poverty level. Applicants living in households that receive benefits under Food Stamps, Medicaid, or HEAP are automatically income-eligible.

If interested, you may mail in your application to the St. Lawrence County One-Stop Career Center, 80 State Hwy 310, Suite 8, Canton, NY 13517. Applicants will be contacted in May or early June for an interview.
