Updated at 8:45 p.m. to correct incorrect references to margin of error.
A recent list from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation says St. Lawrence County is among the unhealthiest in the state.
The list ranks St. Lawrence County at 57 of 62 New York counties for health outcomes, which they define as “how long people live and how healthy people feel while alive.”
St. Lawrence is number 56 in health factors, which, according to the foundation means “health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic, and physical environment factors.”
The foundation says that 6,778 people per 100,000 died prematurely, meaning before age 75. However, the margin of error is 6,196 to 7,360 per 100,000.
The study claims that 29 percent of adults are obese, defined as having a body mass index of 30 or more. The error margin ranges between 24 to 35 percent.
The report says there are 22 teen births (ages 15 to 19) per 1,000 people, but the error margin is 21 to 24.
It further claims that 27 percent of adults smoke, and 23 percent binge drink or drink excessively.
The Robert Wood Foundation “is the nation’s largest philanthropy dedicated solely to health,” according to its website.
