Students, parents, community members attend St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES third K-8 Regional Art Show

CANTON -- The winners have been announced for the North Country Art Teachers Association’s third K-8 Regional Art show held recently at St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES.

This exhibit features artworks from 16 districts in St. Lawrence County.

About 500 people attended the art show opening Tuesday night, where there was live music, dessert, and face painting.

“I think it’s really awesome that we get to show off everyone's talent!” said Krista Burns, a 5th grade Norwood-Norfolk student.

“Dynamite! Can’t believe it, these kids are great!” said Jim Murray, community member. “I am so impressed by everything that is here! The music is great, the food is great and so is the face painting! It’s a great collection of things to celebrate! I love all the different types of art!” said Esther Oey.

The show will be on display until the week of April 24th.

Award recipients included, for 5th-6th grade:

• Best of show: “Cooperative Color Wheel” by Sydney Francis, Wyatt Newman, Paul Cheng, Nick Locy, Stephanie Stone, and Emma Benware from Canton Central;

• 1st Place: “My Mola” by Etta Coburn from Canton Central;

• 2nd Place: “Delaunay Design” by Destiny Peretta from Morristown Central; and

• 3rd Place: “Forest Sunrise” by Mariah Crump from St. Lawrence Central.

Winners of categories for 7th-8th grade were:

• Best of show: “Treading Water” by Keely Towne from Potsdam Central;

• 1st Place: “Inferno” by Savannah Walker from Potsdam Central;

• 2nd Place: “Day Dreamer” by Anabell Smith-Goolden from Norwood-Norfolk Central; and

• 3rd Place: “Music” by Alexis Rice from Madrid-Waddington Central.
