POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam’s Educational Opportunity Program is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month with the creation of a scholarship in memory of an EOP graduate who dedicated his life to helping others.
At a special dinner celebration on this evening, SUNY Potsdam President Dr. John F. Schwaller will announce the creation of the scholarship, $1,000 to be awarded each year beginning in the spring, to honor 2000 graduate Shawn Osbourne of Brooklyn.
Attending the dinner will be scholarship donors and members of the family, EOP students, faculty, staff and more than 40 alumni of the program, including Larry Jenne, Class of 1983 and principal of Lawrence Avenue Elementary School in Potsdam.
The Educational Opportunity Program is a New York State-funded program that provides academic support and financial aid to students who show promise for academic success in college-level work, but who may not meet normally applied admission criteria.
