OGDENSBURG -- The City Housing Office will no longer have regular office hours in an effort to cut costs while it waits to hear back from the state about grant money.
The office says the change is effective immediately. Staff will be available by appointment until further notice.
The City of Ogdensburg is waiting to hear from New York State about 2011 grant applications for the city’s housing programs.
“Typically these grant awards are announced in August and September” said Jim O’Neill, President of C.W. Augustine, Inc., the city’s housing programs administrator. “From what we are hearing, the funding announcements may not be made until sometime in December 2011.”
“It isn’t the ideal situation but it clearly makes financial sense,” said City Manger Art Sciorra. With funds to run the office so limited, Sciorra said, “office hours by appointment is an economical way to meet the needs of everyone involved.”
The housing office staff is available by telephone at 393-7401 to answer questions, make appointments, and to assist in obtaining funds from other sources. Applications can be obtained by calling this number, or in person at the city Planning Office, or by visiting the city website at www.ogdensburg.org, clicking on “Government,” then from the drop down list clicking on “Departments,” “Housing and Community Development,” “Housing Programs,” and “Housing Rehabilitation.”
