Stormy Wednesday to give way to sunny late week, forecasters say

After a warm and stormy Wednesday, forecasters with the National Weather Service say the rest of the week in St. Lawrence County and the surrounding area will be sunny with temperatures in the low 60s.

The NWS has St. Lawrence County under a hazardous weather outlook for Wednesday, where temperatures are predicted in the low 70s.

"A strong cold front will move across the North Country on Wednesday afternoon, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected. Given the anticipated instability and wind profiles, a line of strong to locally severe thunderstorms are possible. The primary threat would be isolated to scattered damaging winds, which could produce power outages and trees down," the warning reads.

Wednesday night is predicted to cool down to the mid 60s with a 60 percent chance of showers followed by partly cloudy skies after 10 p.m.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are all forecast to be sunny in the low 60s during the day. Nighttime temperatures are predicted in the mid 40s, with a 30 percent chance of showers on Friday night.

The detailed forecast for the county:

Tuesday afternoon - Rain, mainly before 5pm. High near 62. South wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday night - A chance of showers before 10pm, then showers or drizzle likely, mainly after 5am. Cloudy, with a low around 62. South wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday - Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. High near 73. South wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday night - Showers likely, mainly before 7pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. West wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the evening.

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph.

Friday night - A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 47. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 63. West wind 5 to 7 mph.

Saturday night - A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Sunday - A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Northwest wind around 6 mph.

Sunday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 41. Light and variable wind.

Monday - A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 60. South wind 3 to 6 mph.
