Storms could hit St. Lawrence County through the weekend

The National Weather Service predicts thunderstorms and rain throughout the weekend.

They say Friday should be mostly cloudy with temperatures in the low 80s.

Friday night the NWS says there is a 50 percent chance of showers in Canton, Gouverneur and Ogdensburg, with 40 percent in Potsdam and Massena and 60 percent in the mountains. Thermometers are expected to read in the low 60s.

On Saturday, people attending Ogdensburg's Seaway Festival, MOOD Fest and Founder's Weekend may get briefly soaked. Meteorologists call for a 20 percent chance of small hail, gusty winds and heavy rain, giving way to a mostly sunny remainder of the day with a high of 84.

The rest of St. Lawrence County faces 30 percent odds of storms with a similar temperature outlook.

Saturday night is predicted to bring temperatures in the mid 60s with partly cloudy skies.

On Sunday, meteorologists are calling for a 40 percent chance of partly cloudy skies giving way to thunderstorms with temperatures near 90.

Sunday night brings an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms with temperatures in the high 60s, the NWS said.

The detailed forecast for Ogdensburg:

Today - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind 9 to 13 mph.

Tonight - A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday - A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph.

Saturday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 7 mph.

Sunday - A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday night - Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday - A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. West wind 7 to 13 mph.

Monday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 63. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph.

Wednesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

Wednesday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 59. West wind 3 to 6 mph.

Thursday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the morning.
