Storm warning: Up to 8 inches of snow expected in parts of St. Lawrence County followed by wintry mix Tuesday

A winter storm watch has been issued in St. Lawrence County where up to three inches of snow is expected tonight, followed by up to seven inches of a wintry mix Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning takes effect at 10 p.m. Monday, but things are expected to pick up Tuesday where sleet is expected in the morning followed by rain and then more sleet after 3 p.m.

The storm watch is expected to be lifted Tuesday night.

The winter storm comes just days after the county received more than six inches of snow that was followed by extremely cold temperatures.

A seven-day forecast follows:

Today: A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 23. Wind chill values as low as -13. Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: Snow, mainly after midnight. Low around 23. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tuesday: Rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 2pm, then rain between 2pm and 3pm, then sleet after 3pm. The rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet could be heavy at times. High near 32. North wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of around a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Tuesday Night: Snow and sleet before midnight, then a chance of snow between midnight and 4am. The snow and sleet could be heavy at times. Low around 22. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. West wind around 9 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 16. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 2. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 5 mph after midnight.

Friday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 33. Southeast wind 6 to 13 mph.

Friday Night: Snow likely, mainly after 7pm. Cloudy, with a low around 29. South wind around 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Saturday: Rain and snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 42. Southwest wind 14 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind 11 to 14 mph.
