Storm damage has required system maintenance by Slic Network Solutions that will cause temporary service interruption for customers in the Star Lake, Fine, and Newton Falls areas Tuesday night.

The interruption will begin at midnight Tuesday night, Aug. 14.

The telecommunications company says service will be restored as soon as possible after repairs are made to a cable damaged in a storm Aug. 5.

The storm knocked down several large pine trees which broke electric lines, which in turn burned a fiber-optic cable casing on County Route 27A.

The burnt fiber presents a danger of future breakage that could require emergency repair.

The plan is to o replace a section of backbone fiber consisting of 96 individual fiber strands.

The Slic Network Solution Installation and Repair team will prepare for the repair before the planned interruption Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The repair will begin with removal of damaged fiber and splicing in new fiber, beginning with fiber strands that serve those areas in southern St. Lawrence County first, to restore service as quickly as possible, the company says.
