Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match begins matching donations on Thanksgiving Day in St. Lawrence County

Stewart’s Shops annual Holiday Match kicks off Thanksgiving Day, building on their 30 years of giving to local children’s charities.

Customers at the nine St. Lawrence County locations have helped Stewart’s contribute more than $22 million to thousands of local children’s organizations throughout the region since 1986.

“It has been incredible to watch the donations grow year after year,” said Stewart’s Shops President Gary Dake. “We have been doubling their generous donations and supporting kids in our local communities for 30 years. That’s something everyone should be proud of.”

The goal of Holiday Match is to encourage individual giving and broaden the base of support for local charities.

The program set another record in 2015, as Stewart’s customers donated $870,000. That’s a $100,000 increase over 2014. Those donations were doubled to more than $1.74 million with the Stewart’s match, with checks sent to more than 1,570 children’s charities.

Donations will be collected from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Day at their two locations each in Potsdam, Canton, and Massena, plus shops in Gouverneur, Heuvelton, Winthrop in St. Lawrence County, and in Brushton and Harrisville, and at the hundreds of others Stewart’s Shops in New York and Vermont.

Stewart’s then matches every donation. All the money goes to charity; there are no administrative costs. The funds are allocated in March.

Stewart’s Holiday Match is a 501c3 foundation; all donations are tax-deductible. Stewart’s gladly accepts funds from groups or businesses, but only matches individual donations.

To apply for funding, local children’s organizations are encouraged to apply online at stewartsshops.com. Paper applications are also available at shops. The deadline for submission is January 31, 2017.

All groups applying must be locally based, benefit children under 18, and be a qualified, charitable 501c3 organization.

A brochure listing all the local organizations that received funds last season will also be available in all Stewart’s Shops and at stewartsshops.com.
