Several St. Lawrence County sites will get new trailheads and boat launches from a state initiative aimed at boosting outdoor tourism.
The NY Fishing and Hunting Initiative is designed to enhance hunting access, boat launches, fishing platforms and hiking trails and improve access to existing recreational trails, additional parking areas, trail maps, signage and kiosks. It will also streamline the process for hunting and fishing licenses and limit liability for private landowners who allow recreational activities on their property. Crossbow hunting may also return as a result of the effort.
St. Lawrence County sites slated for improvement are:
• Grasse River conservation easement in the towns of Clare, Colton and Clifton.
• Oswegatchie waterway and state forest access site at Wegatchie, town of Gouverneur.
• Fish Creek wildlife management area, towns of DePeyster and Macomb.
