The New York State Snowmobilers Association (NYSSA) encourages snowmobilers to join local clubs early to ensure trails are ready when hunting season ends.

“The snow forecasts are encouraging and now is the best time for snowmobilers to renew their membership and prepare for the 2013-2014 winter season,” said Dominic Jacangelo, Executive Director of NYSSA. “Club memberships allow NYSSA and the local clubs the ability to provide safe and well maintained trails for our members statewide.”

Local clubs and NYSSA partner with local businesses to ensure services are available to all of its members, giving additional benefits to each paid member. Clubs are always in need of additional volunteers to run their yearly endeavors as well. From fundraisers to trail work and grooming, it’s the club volunteers that maintain the more than 10,000 miles of snowmobile trails that New York State has to offer. NYSSA invites club members to become more involved with their club and “their sport”.

“While the forecast of snow is surely teasing snowmobilers, we must respect our season and wait for the official opening of trails in December,” said James Elmore, President of NYSSA. “We ask all snowmobilers to respect landowner relationships and do not ride on closed trails. Please check with your local clubs for the official season opening date, which generally is not until after the hunting seasons have ended.”
