State Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Patty Ritchie commended the state agriculture commissioner for his efforts to cut red tape on farmers, during a committee meeting this week.
State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine appeared Tuesday at a joint Senate-Assembly public hearing on the proposed state budget, and answered questions from senators and assembly members who were looking for details in the proposals that affect farming.
The budget represents state government’s priorities for the coming year.
Ritchie, a Heuvelton Republican, questioned Aubertine about proposed cuts to some marketing programs, a proposal for a new state assessment on dairy farmers to pay for research and education, and efforts to help farmers recover from 2011’s devastating floods.
