The state Labor Department has released its April 2017 unemployment rates and St. Lawrence County is 6.6 percent, down .3 percent from the March rate of 6.9 percent.
This compares with the numbers from neighboring Jefferson County at 6.5 percent and 6.3 percent in Franklin County.
The April rate for the county is higher than the state-wide average rate of 4.3 percent.
St. Lawrence County's has remained unchanged, however, compared to this time last year when the rate was also 6.6 percent.
There were 40,500 employed people in the county in April compared to 41,100 at the same time last year, reports the state Labor Department. An estimated 2,800 people were unemployed in the county compared to 2,900 at the same time last year.
Franklin County numbers account for 18,400 people employed in April 2017, and 1,200 unemployed.
The state Labor Department determined that there were 42,000 employed people in Jefferson County in April 2017 and 2,900 unemployed people.
