State police in Troop B, which covers St. Lawrence and four other counties, issued 682 speeding tickets and made 35 driving while intoxicated arrests during its recently completed impaired driving campaign.
The initiative ran from Dec. 14 to Jan.1 and was part of a state-wide effort that resulted in more than 33,000 tickets and 538 DWI arrests.
During the period, the New York State Police held 29 sobriety checkpoints, 10 saturation details, 12 underage drinking and sales to minors details, and 41 additional dedicated local DWI patrols.
Saturation details consist of multiple roving units that target a specific area of focus. It is a massive effort supported largely through grants from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, aimed at preventing tragedies during the Holiday Season.
In addition to the checkpoints and patrols, 12 underage drinking initiative details checked 14 bars and 120 retail establishments across the state.
State Police made 22 arrests for providing alcohol to minors and 12 penal law violations.
