Edited at 3:26 p.m. Wednesday to correctly identify the missing person as a Tupper Lake man.

PIERCEFIELD -- State police are still seeking the public’s help in locating a Tupper Lake man who disappeared four years ago.

Colin W. Gillis, 18, was last seen in the early morning hours of that day walking from a party westbound on State Route 3, between Tupper Lake and Piercefield.

That day, family members, troopers, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and numerous volunteers, began an extensive search of the area, which included Colin’s originating location at Paskungameh Road in Tupper Lake, and the area of State Route 3, near the Franklin County / St. Lawrence County Line.

Personal property of Colin’s was located near the county line. To date, search efforts to locate Colin have been unsuccessful.

The investigation, including ground and water searches, dive details and interviews, is ongoing in an effort to locate Colin and determine the circumstances that led to his disappearance.

Interviews conducted to date have produced mixed results. While some information gleaned from the interviews has been determined to be rumor or proven to be false, many interviews and leads have moved the investigation in a positive direction.

At the time of Colin’s disappearance, he measured 6 feet in height and weighed approximately 170 pounds, with blue eyes and blonde hair in a short, “crew cut” style.

He was last seen wearing red colored, Nike Air “high-top” sneakers (Size 10); Levi brand, boot cut jeans (Size 34/32); a white with blue stripes American Eagle brand V-neck shirt (Size Men’s Medium).

On the night he disappeared, Colin likely possessed a red/black L.L. Bean reversible coat and an orange L.L. Bean backpack.

This investigation remains open and is actively being investigated by the New York State Police, New York State Forest Rangers, New York State Environmental Conservation Police and other law enforcement agencies. A substantial reward remains in place for information leading to the whereabouts of Colin.

Anyone with information relative to this case is requested to contact the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Investigator Jeremy Viele, at (518) 897-2041.
