MORRISTOWN -- A man allegedly drowned near County Club Shores on East Road Tuesday night, according to Morristown Fire Department Chief Kevin Crosby.
Morristown Fire & Rescue Company responded at 8:26 p.m. to a report of a body in the St. Lawrence River.
An ambulance and a rescue vehicle arrived on scene at 8:32 p.m. and found a male victim on a dock with CPR in progress by state police and bystanders, Crosby said.
The unidentified male in his 50s was transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center by Morristown Rescue.
The victim was pronounced dead a short time later by CHMC emergency room staff, Crosby said.
Crosby, who is also St. Lawrence County coroner, ordered an autopsy, which he said will be performed in the next day or two.
The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
State police are investigating the incident.
