State police in Canton begin search for new home to address parking, building access and efficiency of operations issues

CANTON — State police are searching for a new facility that will better meet their needs which have changed over the 20 years that they have been located at 49 1/2 Court St.

“The state police is always looking to optimize our space so that we can effectively meet the needs of the public and our members,” said state police troop B Public Information Officer Tpr. Jennifer Fleishman.

The building must be about 5,500 square feet, in the Canton or Potsdam townships, within a seven mile radius of the intersection of CR 35 and U.S. Highway 11 an should have easy access to U.S. Highway 11.

Troopers are looking to enter into a five-year lease.

Approximately 25 employees would work out of the facility.

“Technology has changed and our needs have changed,” Fleishman said. “There is a search underway for a more modern facility in Canton that can better meet those needs in terms of parking, building access and efficiency of operations.”

According to a public notice, consideration will be given to new construction and existing structures that offer:

• Professional office space which will be delivered for occupancy on a turn-key basis including, but not limited to, miscellaneous offices, patrol/ squad room, two locker rooms, a break room, rest rooms, a conference room, miscellaneous storage rooms and off street parking for approximately thirty-five (35) vehicles;

• Electric and telephone/data needs include standard office requirements, including duplex outlets and telephone/data outlets;

• Sufficient power for office equipment and electrical convenience outlets per code and generally accepted commercial construction standards should be provided;

• The building should also include the installation of an appropriately sized stand-by generator and automatic transfer switch.

• The leased premises shall comply with all ADA accessibility requirements.
