CANTON – The New York Department of State and the state Education Department are sending representatives to Canton Aug. 22 to discuss with the community sharing of services among public schools.
The meeting will be from 3 to 4 p.m. in the BOCES large conference room, 40 West Main St. and takes place as school officials continue to wrestle with significant budget cuts that have taken place in recent years.
The open community meeting's purpose is to continue discussion and exploration of how St. Lawrence County schools can work together to provide the best services to students through sharing services.
The agenda will address the following questions:
• How much emphasis does the state put on sharing services, mergers and regional high schools and what does that mean for our community?
• How involved can the community be in the process, merger or otherwise?
• While the community explores options and makes plans, what kinds of support and assistance can be expected from the state, including financial and technical help, among other means?
