STAR LAKE -- Richard J. LaFave, Jr., 47, Star Lake, accused last week of injuring an animal and lying about it, had shot a neighbor’s dog with BBs, state police charge.

LaFave was arrested at 321 Youngs Rd. Thursday afternoon for alleged injury to an animal and providing a false written statement, both misdemeanors, troopers said.

Troopers today said LaFave intentionally shot at his neighbor’s dog with a BB gun when it wandered onto his property on Youngs Road. LaFave then lied to the investigating trooper when he was initially interviewed.

After troopers found evidence that LaFave had in fact shot the dog, he was arrested and charged.

The dog was treated for injuries sustained from being shot by two BBs, one in the hind quarter and one in the neck. Troopers said the dog is expected to recover.

LaFave was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Fine Court on April 22, at 6:30 p.m.
