Seven projects in the Clifton-Fine area will receive a total of $6,000 from the Northern New York Community Foundation.
The Clifton-Fine Community Fund is a permanent philanthropic resource designed to support programs, projects and initiatives that will have a lasting impact in communities such as Fine, Oswegatchie, Star Lake, Wanakena, Newton Falls, Cranberry Lake, Benson Fines, Windfall and surrounding the area. The Lester Allen & Stephen Moyer Fund works in conjunction with the Clifton-Fine Community Fund to augment charitable endeavors in region. Since 2008, the Community Foundation has made grants totaling nearly $100,000 in support of projects in the Clifton-Fine area.
The approved community fund grants were:
• Star Lake Fire & Rescue Department - $1,700 to assist with the purchase of certified rescue gear.
• Community Improvement Program of Cranberry Lake Boat Club - $1,000 to help complete the Cranberry Lake community pavilion project.
• Wanakena Historical Association - $1,000 to construct a walking tour station dedicated to the history of the Wanakena Footbridge. This grant was made possible through the Lester Allen and Stephen Moyer Fund.
• Otto’s Abode - $1,000 to provide start-up funding to develop a volunteer-based arts community center in Wanakena. This grant was made possible through the Lester Allen and Stephen Moyer Fund.
• Cranberry Lake Fire & Rescue Department - $730 for the acquisition of “Fire Danger Level” signage to raise community awareness.
• Town of Clifton - $250 for the purchase of display cabinets to feature exhibits at the Town of Clifton Museum.
• Arts Committee of the Clifton-Fine Economic Development Corporation - $250 to assist with costs for a free concert series performance provided by Cycle Adirondacks.
