MASSENA -- A standoff at 9 Leach Street involving multiple law enforcement agencies has ended peacefully, Massena Police Chief Adam Love said.

"It ended peacefully. We were able to get seven people out of the house," Love said, adding that all seven are being questioned.

Two suspects are facing charges on outstanding warrants.

Love said the incident began around 12:03 p.m. when a family member of one of the house's occupants called police "about a situtation at 9 Leach Street."

He said the content of the messages prompted police to respond to the scene and form a perimeter around the residence.

“What we read in the texts, we were unsure what the outcome could be, so that’s why we held a perimeter. Our main concern was to get all parties out of the house safely. We were able to eventually get everybody out," Love said.

He said after getting everyone out, they found two had warrants issued against them.

Cierra L. Smith, 26, of 9 Leach St. has two warrants for failure to appear in court, one from village police for petit larceny and one from state police for fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

A second suspect, Alan J. Oshier, 33, of 169 Water St., Massena was charged on a parole violation warrant.

Love said Oshier was treated for a potential overdose.

He said police wanted Oshier to be checked out because he was showing "symptoms of narcotic use."

Love said police didn't find any drugs or weapons, but there is an ongoing investigation that may lead to charges.

"We’re still working the domestic side of it," Love said.

Other responding agencies were New York State Police, St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Border Patrol, Department of Homeland Security and St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force.

“I’m grateful this ended in a peaceful resolution and I thank all agencies that responded and assisted us,” Love said.
