AKWESASNE -- The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe is installing a new veteran’s monument in their park and are planning to unveil it later in the spring.
On Thursday, members of tribe’s Planning and Infrastructure (P&I) Division helped pour the foundation for the Akwesasne Veterans Memorial Monument.
The memorial is being erected inside the Tewathahitha Walking Trail at Generations Park. It will recognize the military service of Akwesasne community members who served in the U.S. or Canadian armed forces.
A public unveiling of the monument will be on Saturday, May 27 at 2 p.m.
The tribe’s Communications Department is seeking names of all Akwesasne veterans, as well as those currently serving, for recognition during the event.
They can be reached at (518) 358-2272.
