AKWESASNE – The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe has authorized funds for heating assistance to tribal households during the upcoming winter season.
Applications are being taken now, with fuel allocation to begin Jan. 4 to eligible households residing within the tribe’s designated service area who have completed a 2017 assistance application.
For Tribal members to be eligible for the fuel allotment program, the member must provide a SRMT Tribal Identification Card, live within the SRMT jurisdiction and the designated 15-mile radius of the SRMT, be the individual responsible for the payment of the household’s heating, and utilize a SRMT-licensed home heating dealer.
Two verifications of residency are required, and one must be from an electric supplier. and any other invoice
Eligible tribal members 60 years of age and up are eligible for up to $1,000. Those under 60 are eligible for up to $600.
Applications may be completed at the Compliance Department in the Community Building at 412 State Rt. 37 from Monday, Nov. 28 until Friday, Dec. 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We are proud that we can continue to help more than 1,465 households purchase fuel oil, kerosene, propane or other heat products for the winter season,” said Compliance Director Elliott Lazore.
