DICKINSON -- A St. Regis Falls man was killed in a collision in Dickinson Friday afternoon.
State Police said their preliminary investigation indicates that John F. Youmell, 78, St. Regis Falls, had stopped in his 2001 Saturn for a stop sign on Franklin County Rt. 5 at State Rt. 11B and then entered the highway in the path of a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer rig being operated eastbound by David M. Meunier, 43, of St. Albans, Vt.
Franklin County Coroner Brian Langdon pronounced Youmell deceased at the scene and authorized removal of his body to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone for an autopsy.
The accident occurred at about 5 p.m.
The highway was closed for about 6 hours while members of the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit processed and documented the scene.
Dickinson and St. Regis Falls Fire and Rescue responded and assisted at the scene throughout the investigation. The Troop B Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit also responded and conducted an inspection of the tractor-trailer.
The collision remains under investigation.
There was no word on Meunier's condition.
