POTSDAM -- A new crucifix was recently installed at St. Mary's Church.
Hand-carved in linden wood and hand-painted, the crucifix is a replica of one originally done by artist Cimabue, a Florentine artist who lived from 1240 to 1302.
The original crucifix, done in 1287 to 1288, hung in the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Florence.
The original was damaged in the Arno River flood of 1966.
The replica was created in the Demetz Art Studio in Ortisei, Northern Italy, where woodcarving dates back to the 16th century.
