Jenny Townsend prepares to hit the trails with daughter Maya in tow.
COLTON -- The St. Lawrence University Nordic Ski team took a break from their busy competition schedule to offer free lessons and ski waxing recently, according Friends of Higley Flow State Park Winter Recreation Committee Co-chair Judy Fuhr.
“This weekend was a break in their schedule where they were at the college. Instead of taking the weekend off they decided to offer their services and equipment to skiers and would be skiers,” she said. They brought their waxing trailer to Higley Flow State Park, where they do some of their training, and where they help maintain the free cross country trails with their state of the art groomer. They offered free ski waxing to skiers, she said.
In addition they brought equipment from the college so that those interested in trying the sport could do so with ski team members giving free lessons to those interested.
The event was well attended with the parking lot overflowing well onto the access road to the Park,” Fuhr said.
