CANTON -- St. Lawrence University has again been named one of the nation’s best undergraduate institutions, according to The Princeton Review.

The education services company features St. Lawrence in the 2015 edition of its annual college guide The Best 379 Colleges.

St. Lawrence was also once again listed in the category of Great Schools for Mathematics Majors as well Best Northeastern College. The Princeton Review’s Guide to 332 Green Colleges: 2014 Edition, which was published in April, also included St. Lawrence.

President William L. Fox ’75 said that due to its growing reputation and the success of its graduates St. Lawrence should not be regarded, as The Princeton Review said, the “best kept secret in the Northeast.”

“Our alumni keep no secrets about the St. Lawrence experience,” Fox said. “Our recent graduates also have no reason to make a secret of the fact that we have a 97 percent placement rate in jobs and graduate schools, among the best nationally, and largely due to almost 60 percent of all students getting internships while at St. Lawrence. Clearly, with our large and talented incoming class, the secret is out of the bag.”

Students surveyed by The Princeton Review praised St. Lawrence for its “high-quality of professors and facilities” and for boasting “a science program that is one of the strongest among liberal arts schools.”

The book quotes extensively from St. Lawrence students, who mention the university’s small classes sizes and dedicated faculty. One student said, “the professors here are truly exceptional…they put so much time into ensuring you grow as a scholar and as a person.”

The guide book also focuses on St. Lawrence’s dedication to sustainability and highlights its “meaningful impact in communities on both local and global scales.”

“St. Lawrence offers outstanding academics, which is the chief reason we selected it for the book,” said Rob Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president/publisher and author of The Best 379 Colleges. “We base our choices primarily on data we obtain in our annual surveys of administrators at these schools and at hundreds of other colleges.”

St. Lawrence has also included in the most recent Forbes list of American Top Colleges 2014 and was included in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2015.

Only about 15 percent of 2,500 four-year colleges in the United States are profiled. The Princeton Review's flagship college guide includes detailed profiles of the colleges with rating scores for all schools in eight categories based on its surveys of 130,000 students attending the colleges.
