St. Lawrence University installing electric vehicle charging station

St. Lawrence University, through National Grid, will soon host a ChargePoint Networked Charging Station for electrical vehicles.

The charging station will have two electrical nozzles for electric vehicle owners to use while on campus.

“St. Lawrence has signed the Presidents’ Climate Commitment, and we have committed to becoming climate neutral by 2040,” said Kathryn Mullaney, vice president for finance and treasurer at SLU. “This is another small step for us to reach that goal.”

The charging station will be located near the Newell Athletic Center. The two parking spaces will be for electrical vehicles only, where owners can refill for free.

Installation is expected to be complete in early July.

The total cost of the project will be about $4,000, 90 percent of which will be funded by National Grid, with the college picking up the tab for the remaining 10 percent.

National Grid will pay for the maintenance and repair of the charging station, while the university will pay for the electricity.

National Grid received funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority for the project.
