CANTON -- St. Lawrence University will hold an opening ceremony for the UNITY project in Creasy Commons at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30.
The UNITY project is a national movement focused on demonstrating how a community's differences can actually bring people together.
During the ceremony, 32 unique poles will be placed around the commons between the ODY Library and Gunnison Memorial Chapel.
Members of the campus and local communities will be encouraged to weave yarn around the poles that they identify with to construct a web of interconnectedness. The event is free and open to the public.
The project will be staffed for assistance and questions during the following times:
Friday, Sept. 30, 5 to 7 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m. to noon.
Sunday, Oct. 2., 2 to 4 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 6, 5 to 7 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 7, 5 to 7 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 8, 10 a.m. to noon.
Sunday, Oct. 9, 2 to 4 p.m.
A closing ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11
